Marist to Host 9th Annual Enterprise Computing Community National Conference
Industry and academic leaders to discuss efforts to revitalize undergraduate education in enterprise computing
Marist College will host the 9th Annual Enterprise Computing Community (ECC) National Conference from June 11-13, 2017 in collaboration with their academic and industry partners in the enterprise computing community.
Initially funded by a National Science Foundation grant in 2008, the ECC has brought together more than 1,500 industry and academic representatives to propose changes to undergraduate curricula to address skills shortages in large systems computing and develop ideas to introduce computational concepts earlier in a student’s educational experience. The 2017 conference's themes are innovation and entrepreneurship in enterprise computing.
"Industry and government are struggling to attract new technologists to replace aging workers who manage the enterprise computing systems that are vital to continued economic growth and national security," said Dr. Roger Norton, Dean of the School of Computer Science and Mathematics. "This shortage would leave gaps in the workforce in a variety of areas critical to our country, including banking, commerce, healthcare, public safety, transportation, and the military."
The conference will feature keynote presentations from Bernard Meyerson, Vice President, Chief Innovation Officer, and IBM Fellow; Madge Meyer, Former Executive Vice President, Chief Innovation Officer, and Technology Fellow at State Street Corporation; Ramesh Gopinath, Vice President of Blockchain Solutions at IBM; and Carol Reeves, Assistant Vice Provost of Entrepreneurship at the University of Arkansas. It will also feature a variety of technical presentations, panel discussions, plenary sessions, and opportunities to network with industry professionals, vendors, faculty, and students.
