Internship Assistance Through the Presidential Equity Fund

Mouhamadou Diallo '27, a communication major concentrating in sports communication, interned at the Sports Museum of Dutchess County with support from the Presidential Fund for Equity. During his internship, Mouhamadou discovered new career paths that broadened his perspective without having the burden of financial stressors. "[The Fund] let me focus on the internship itself—on why I was there. I didn't have to worry about how I'd pay to get there every week."

The Presidential Fund for Equity provides awards to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to participating in meaningful academic experiences, such as internships.

Internships

What are Internships?

While an internship is technically a “position of a student or trainee who works in an organization, sometimes without pay, in order to gain work experience or satisfy requirements for a qualification”, to students at Marist, an internship is so much more.

At Marist, we provide students with the resources to find internship opportunities that exhilarate their interests and inspire them to move forward and upward in their chosen field. Internships enable students to take the fundamentals they have obtained during their coursework at Marist and begin to learn to apply them in a professional setting. With internships available right here in the Hudson Valley, overseas, and anywhere in between, there is a multitude of opportunities available to students.

Internships at Marist

At Marist, we believe that a liberal arts-based education helps students learn to think logically and creatively, to integrate insights from a variety of disciplines, and to effectively express opinions both verbally and in writing.  At the same time, we know that extending learning beyond the classroom is key to intellectual development and critical thinking.  For this reason, all six academic schools place a strong emphasis on internships as a key component of the undergraduate experience.

Through Marist’s robust internship programs, our students gain valuable real world experiences and contacts that prepare them for successful careers.  Of those students who graduated from Marist in 2023, 86 percent participated in one or more internships, and many credit them as a primary reason they landed their first job after graduation.

Marist students from all academic majors complete internships at a wide variety of organizations, both during the school year and over the summer.  Some examples of the companies where our students have interned include Ernst & Young, Michael Kors, Anderson Center for Autism, CBS, Brooklyn Nets, Morgan Stanley, USAA, Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital, IBM, the TJX Companies, Verizon, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), Marie Claire Magazine, Fidelity Investments, Madison Square Garden, Sony Music Entertainment, Village Voice, and many more.

In addition, Marist offers specialized internship programs like the Albany Summer Internship Program, the Washington Semester Program, and the Tarver Summer Internship Program. At the end of the day, Marist students graduate prepared and career-ready.

Connecting Students with Alumni at Paramount Headquarters

Marist students from across all disciplines visited Paramount's headquarters in Manhattan for a Road to the Workplace trip, where they toured the entertainment company's offices, attended an alumni panel discussion, and even sat on the iconic Forrest Gump bench—all part of a dynamic day of networking and discovering how Red Fox connections can open doors in the entertainment industry.
