Choose a Major to Drive Your Goals

In support of your future career goals, each Chemistry and Biochemistry curriculum available at Marist is American Chemical Society-approved and emphasizes extensive hands-on experience with state-of-the-art instrumentation and development of effective communication and technological skills. Choose from four degree options, each suited to specific career outlooks.

BS in Chemistry

If you are seeking American Chemical Society (ACS) certification as you prepare for a careers as a professional scientist in the chemical, pharmaceutical, or molecular industries, or as a health-care practitioner, this is an excellent degree option for you. This curriculum are recommended particularly if you are anticipating graduate-level (MS or PhD) study in chemistry.

BS in Biochemistry

If you are seeking American Chemical Society (ACS) certification as you prepare for a careers as a professional scientist in the chemical, pharmaceutical, or molecular industries, or as a health-care practitioner, this is an excellent degree option for you. This curriculum are recommended particularly if you are anticipating graduate-level (MS or PhD) study in biochemistry or biomedical sciences.

BA in Chemistry

This more flexible Chemistry curriculum is designed to have plenty of free electives, allowing students to pursue personal and professional interests in other areas, such as business, education, and computer science. This degree option is especially well suited for those seeking provisional certification to teach chemistry in secondary schools in New York State or for marketing, advertising, and sales positions in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

BA in Biochemistry

This more flexible Biochemistry curriculum is designed to have plenty of free electives, allowing students to pursue personal and professional interests in other areas, such as business, education, and computer science. This degree option, with proper choice of electives, may be used as preparation for students seeking a career in the health professions.

Extensive Hands-on Research Opportunities

As a student in the Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics Department at Marist, you are both the central focus and an integral part of the Department, working side-by-side with faculty who are enthusiastically committed to your success. You’ll have the opportunity to complete original research projects, which can culminate in presentation or publication at the national level. Along with faculty research, we also encourage collaborative research opportunities with students in a variety of academic disciplines, expanding upon the benefits of a liberal arts education.

 Chemistry students collaborate on research with a Fashion student to develop a chemical process to extract indigo dye from old denim scraps, creating a sustainable approach to dyeing white denim reusing existing materials.

The highlights of my academic experience included the very tight-knit community I experienced in chemistry. There weren’t many students in this program, so we all knew each other quite well, and all of the professors knew us.
