Animation at Marist: Where Technology Meets the Arts
As an Animation student at Marist, you’re ready to use your curiosity to explore the heritage and future of creative media. Marist has the tools, resources, facilities, and technology to help you do just that. By studying at a leading institution for the integration of technology and the arts, you’ll have the knowledge and hands-on experience to ensure your success in animation upon graduation.
An Animation Curriculum
Focused on Your Goals
The Animation concentration, through Marist’s major in Digital Media, provides training in a wide range of new media, along with an understanding of their historical background in traditional media. You’ll take courses like:
Along with your major and concentration coursework, you’ll also round out your education with additional classes in art or a related field, take a professional internship, or combine all three!
Faculty Comprised of Recognized Artists and Professionals
As a Marist Animation student, you’ll be learning firsthand from faculty who are experts in their field. Our faculty are recognized working artists, designers, and animators who will teach you not only the theory and practice of animation, but also the ins and outs of the animation industry.
Hands-on Experience Creates Strong Animators
Students have access to numerous digital labs for animation production and post-production such as video and sound editing. In addition to the digital labs, students have access to the Steel Plant Maker Lab to experiment and investigate 3D printing, laser cutting, and other methods of digitally fabricated art making to support their studies in animation. In addition to studio experience, students may also participate in local events hosted at Marist like the Hudson Valley Game Conference, while honing your animation skills, learning from other participants, and presenting your work to other animators.
Develop The Skills Needed To Succeed
Animation Production
Understand the difference between simply making things move to bringing your art to life by exploring the fundamentals of animation and gaining hands-on experiences with advanced tools.
Multimedia Techniques
Explore several techniques for producing animation such as 2D pencil and vector drawing, 3D modeling and computer-generated animation, motion graphics, and experimental video.
Storyboards and Concepts
You will develop your personal sense of story and visual aesthetic by developing concepts and storyboards.
Presentation and Critical Thinking
Learn to be critical of your sense of experimentation or storytelling and develop the ability to confidently present and communicate your ideas.
Team Projects
You will learn to produce an animation through team projects both in the class and internship opportunities.
Portfolio Development
Graduate with a portfolio and demo reel that showcases a unique point of view that is marketable for entering the animation, gaming, and entertainment industries.
