Students Share Most Anticipated Features of New Dyson Center
July 23, 2024 — Marist’s new Dyson Center is nearly complete, on schedule to open for the fall semester. If you haven’t been on campus for a while, you'll be excited to see what's going on both inside and outside this spectacular new academic facility.
Here’s a preview of some of the innovative features and spaces that await, and what students are saying they’re most looking forward to.
Saxbys Student-run Cafe
Saxbys is set to open its first cafe in New York state at Marist. The completely student-run cafe will include coffee, food, and seating areas for students to work, collaborate, and socialize.

Investment Center
“As a student in our finance program, I’m definitely most excited about the new Investment Center,” said Sara Brzovski '26, a double major in business administration with a concentration in finance, and economics. “The new, larger space with additional Bloomberg Terminals will help enhance Marist’s finance program and encourage further collaboration between students. I also work in the Admissions Office as a tour guide, and I’m glad that we will finally be able to show families the completed building and all of its facilities.”
Marketing Lab
“I am most excited about the new marketing lab, which will give students in the marketing concentration firsthand use of industry-standard software and innovative research tools like emotional response sensors,” said Jake Veillette '25, a major in business administration and marketing with a minor in public relations. “It’s also great to finally have classes once again in the heart of campus. I am really looking forward to seeing how this building comes to life.”

The psychology department will equip the cognitive and biological lab with an EEG (electroencephalogram) machine, which measures electrical activity in the brain. Two faculty members will work with students on brain research, while another will track seals in New York Harbor. The new developmental psychology lab is outfitted with a one-way mirror to observe children engaged in tasks with puppets and toys. The mock courtroom is ready to support the new Moot Court club, which has already experienced success in regional competitions. The teacher education methods classroom is outfitted with gas, electricity, water, and science stations for teaching high school STEM classes. The maker space is open to all students, whether preparing for student teaching demonstrations or getting ready for conference presentations.
Social Work Suite
“I’m thrilled about the counseling and social work suite in the new Dyson building, specifically designed for training in individual, group, and family therapy,” said Molly Harnaga '25, a social work major with a minor in psychology. “This amazing space promises an immersive learning experience that will prepare us thoroughly for meaningful work in diverse therapeutic settings. Our best preparation for becoming future social workers comes from practicing role plays and other scenarios as often as possible.”
Outdoor Seating
