July 23, 2024 — Next week, the calendar turns to August, which means Red Foxes from New England to California and overseas will start preparing for their journey to campus. Here are a few tips and things to get you jazzed up about for the new academic year!

Get Excited for the Start of the Fall Semester

Students move in between Aug. 19 and Aug. 24. First-year students, keep an eye on your email, updates in MyMarist, and be sure to complete all the forms and information you’ll need before arrival!

Students can view the full Move-In schedule and make sure they have completed the Enrolled Student Checklist before move-in day.

Before the semester kicks off, new students can expect a packed schedule full of welcome events, including social and community gatherings offered by the Office of Student Activities. New student events include a comedy show, boat cruise of the Hudson River, and on Sunday (Aug. 25), a block party and fireworks display for the full campus to enjoy.

Pro tip: Some new student events will require a free ticket through Hometown Ticketing. Just download the app and look for posted Marist events here in August.

Returning students are scheduled to move in on Aug. 24.

Start a Packing List for Your New Residence Hall

It’s never too early to make a packing list so you can scope out what you already have and purchase or borrow what you don’t. If you’re living in the residence halls, check out what we recommend you bring to campus.

Connect with your roommate(s) beforehand to coordinate which furniture items and appliances will be brought and shared. Residential upgrades over the summer include new appliances and furniture in select residential halls. First-year students will receive their roommate and housing assignments the week of Aug. 5. Have other housing questions? Visit here or email housing@marist.edu.

See What Books You Need and Order Marist Gear

You can either buy new or old books or rent them for the semester once classes start. There is also an apparel and spirit shop so you can come to campus sporting your favorite Red Fox fits.

Start a Marist Bucket List

Your college years go by fast. Making a bucket list is a motivating way to help make the most of your experience. Bucket list items can include joining a new club, trying intramurals, or taking a class in a topic you’re curious about. Whether you are new to Marist or just want to do a deeper dive into the area, you can check out Dutchess County Tourism and Travel Hudson Valley for off-campus fun to add to your list.
