December 4, 2023 — Class. Integrity. These are words frequently used to characterize Jim Parady, Marist's head football coach for more than three decades and the longest tenured coach in Division I football.

One of the most respected figures in college football, Parady announced his retirement last week. With 32 years at the helm, Parady transformed the program from Division III to the Pioneer Football League, securing four league championships and 155 wins during his tenure.

Reflecting on his career, Parady expressed pride in the student-athletes he worked with and their success beyond graduation.

“I am grateful to all the great student-athletes I've had the chance to work with. It has been incredible to see them in their life after graduation and seeing them as husbands, fathers, having successful professional careers, and giving back to Marist and their own communities," he said. "I will always cherish my time leading this program. I'd also like to thank all the fantastic administration and staff I've worked with who help make Marist a special place, and I wish them success moving forward."

Added Marist President Kevin Weinman: “Coach Parady embodies Marist’s deep commitment to success on and off the field and has helped elevate the College’s Division I athletics program. I’m eager to build upon his example and many successes as we move forward and continue to support our talented student-athletes.”

Director of Athletics Tim Murray commended Parady's impact, emphasizing his leadership.

"Marist has been fortunate to have someone of Jim Parady's character," Murray said. "He is beloved by his players and has made an impact in their lives that extends far beyond the field. I thank Coach Parady for his steadfast leadership and I know I speak for everyone at Marist College when I say we have been blessed with someone of Jim's integrity."

Growth of a program

Parady's coaching journey began in 1991 as offensive coordinator, eventually rising to head coach the following season. Under his guidance, Marist achieved success in Division I-AA (now known as the Football Championship Subdivision) and later in the Pioneer Football League (PFL).

Notable achievements include three MAAC championships, a share of the PFL championship in 2013, and the development of NFL talents like Terrence Fede and Jason Myers. Parady leaves behind an impressive coaching legacy, marked by 88 First Team All-League selections and 111 Second Team All-League selections.

Long-time assistant Scott Rumsey takes the helm as interim head coach while Marist immediately begins a nationwide search for Parady's full-time successor.
