Why this looks valid

  • This email may appear to come from a valid Marist email address 
  • The message is personalized to the recipient
  • The message contains details that make it look valid, such as claiming it is "secure encrypted" and that it is from the "Marist.edu Mail team"
  • File sharing platforms are common ways to send important information
  • The phishing website looks exactly like the Marist College login page

Why this is phishing

  • The file sharing information does not look like Microsoft OneDrive, Sharepoint, or any other common file sharing platform
  • The link in the message does not go to a Marist College website or related service
  • There are no details about the data that is supposedly being sent

  • Remember:  always check the link.  You can hover over the link in the email to ensure that it going to a valid service.
  • Report this message to Microsoft. In Outlook on the Web, click the Junk menu, and select Phishing.
