March 13, 2023 – The Marist men’s basketball team’s dream run from 11-seed to the MAAC Tournament Championship game ended on Saturday night, despite a spirited effort against top-seeded Iona. Defying all odds, Marist had top-seeded Iona tied at 46 with nine minutes to go in the second half but lost 76-55.

Senior center Patrick Gardner led the Red Foxes with 23 points in a losing effort. It was Marist’s first appearance in the MAAC men’s basketball title game since joining the conference in 1997, and it was the first time ever in MAAC history an 11-seed made it to the Championship game.

Despite the disappointing ending, Marist’s run as an 11-seed, beating Manhattan, Quinnipiac, and St. Peter’s on their way to the MAAC Championship game, won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
