New YorkSarah wasn’t fulfilled as a broadcast journalist, even at E! News and a talent agency, where she worked with celebrities. Switching fields, Sarah is now in her final year of physician assistant graduate studies and feels like she’s making a difference by caring for others.
In May 2024, she spent four weeks on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, completing her OBGYN clinical rotation. In the labor and delivery unit of Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, she helped with c-section and vaginal deliveries and did fetal exams on newborns. Her rotation included office-setting care, where she performed prenatal and postnatal checkups, routine gynecological exams, offered STD testing, and much more.
Eager to learn as much as she could, she spent her “downtime” in the surgical unit, observing and assisting in general and gastrointestinal surgeries. Her mission was to absorb all she could from the medical staff, whom she said were eager teachers.
When there was time off, Sarah made sure to explore the scenic islands, from hikes to caves and secluded beaches to snorkeling with sea turtles. “On my last day, when I went to say goodbye to the OR staff, I cried happy tears. I didn’t want to leave,” she said. “I loved every minute.”
