Summer Pre-College: Statistics

Session I: June 29 – July 12, 2025

Data can be found in various forms, constantly influencing our daily lives and decisions. The Tech Business News Blog reports that "402.7 million terabytes of data are created daily," roughly equivalent to 1,099,511,627,776 bytes, representing an immense amount of information! So, what do we do with this data, and how do we analyze it and apply it to our day-to-day lives? In this two-week Statistics course, you will collect, summarize, and analyze data using the techniques learned throughout class. You will have the opportunity to hear from professionals in various fields and discover how they utilize Statistics in occupations such as criminal justice, marketing, sports, medicine, fashion, and more!

Each day will consist of instruction where you will apply the techniques learned to activities and known data sets. You will complete problems designed to demonstrate your understanding of the concepts taught in class. This course will cover various data analysis methods, including utilizing a web-based statistical package to help with our calculations and analysis.  At the conclusion of the two weeks, you will present your data set and what you learned about it.
