Summer Pre-College: Introduction to Studio Art (Drawing Intensive)
Message from the Faculty Directors: Drawing Intensive
Welcome to Marist College and the Pre College Summer Intro to Studio Art course for high school students. This program provides you with an exciting opportunity to develop a professional drawing portfolio while earning college credit and experiencing college life. Upon successful completion of the Intro to Studio Art Program, each student will earn three (3) transferable college credits for the Marist College course, ART 110N (Basic Drawing).
Program Director – Malgorzata Oakes, Ph.D.
Malgorzata Oakes, Ph.D. is the Summer Pre-College Director of Intro to Studio Art for Summer 2024. Dr. Oakes teaches the following courses: Drawing, Painting and Senior Capstone Thesis. Her work is exhibited nationally and internationally with solo exhibitions in France, Spain and Poland. She is a recipient of scholarships and fellowships in the United States and Europe. Dr. Oakes is a founder of the Summer Pre-College Intro to Studio Art program at Marist and truly looks forward to working closely with young individuals sharing her expertise, knowledge and her extensive research.
Session I Instructor, Malgorzata Oakes, Ph.D.
Malgorzata Oakes is a full-time Assistant Professor in the Art and Digital Media Department at Marist College. She holds an MFA in Studio Art from the very competitive Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland. In 2021 Malgorzata (Maggie) graduated from the Eugeniusz Geppert Doctoral School at the Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland with the Doctor of the Fine Arts and Conservation degree. Oakes continues her research pertaining to sustainability in the arts. She teaches workshops focused on safer printmaking within Women’s Studio Workshop, Anderson Ranch Center, and Manhattan Graphics Center. Additionally, Oakes actively works on collective projects with Indigenous Communities, European artists and educators.
