Welcome to the summer 2023 Pre-Law Institute @ Marist College! Students will spend two weeks engaging with peers while interfacing with attorneys, judges, and courts virtually. Panel discussions and virtual visits to significant venues. Law is the fascinating creation of history, political science, and philosophy. The Pre-Law Institute at Marist College is the ideal way to learn about the legal system, earn 3 credits for Introduction to Law (POSC 102), and become more accustomed to a college classroom. This course provides the perfect combination of theory and practical experience to introduce students to the American legal system and courts. In the classroom, students learn about both the law in theory and the law in action.  Upon successful completion of this course, students may use this course to fulfill social science requirements. As a junior at St. Francis Preparatory High School in Fresh Meadows Queens, I was very intrigued by the possibility of a career in law. However, it would take years for me to learn about the legal system. This course gives you an orientation into law, the legal profession and the legal system.

Teaching and law are both my passions. I am a full-time faculty member at Marist College and in 2014 I was awarded the Marist College Board of Trustees Award for Distinguished Teaching. In 2017, I was awarded the Recipient Marist College Faculty Awareness Award (Office of Accommodations and Accessibility). This special award recognizes a faculty member who has made Marist College a more accessible learning environment.

Since 1991, I have maintained a small law practice with an emphasis in transactional law. Since 1995 I have served my community as a part-time local court judge. For many individuals, the Town Justice Court is their one and only encounter with the legal system I work tirelessly to ensure that all who appear before the Court are treated with respect and made aware of their rights, duties, and responsibilities.

The Hudson Valley is my home. I am a graduate of Vassar College and Albany Law School. I live on a small family farm in Ulster County. The Hudson Valley is an exceptional place to live, study, and practice law.
