Career Services Resume Review Table

The Resume Review Crew: Career coaches from the Center for Career Services organized a review table to help students spruce up their resumes. Students learned how to edit and upgrade their resumes and cover letters just before attending the Work-Study Job Fair on Aug. 30.
Reflect on Your Resume: A clear and strategic resume helps you effectively communicate your personal brand, qualifications, and skills so you can professionally introduce yourself, secure interviews, and ultimately land the job for internships and employment opportunities.
Insider Tip: “First impressions are everything and sometimes you do not get a second shot with employers if your resume isn’t up to par,” said Desmond Murray, Associate Director for the Employer Experience. “It is so important for students to work on their resumes and to make sure that those resumes are concise, generally one page, and don’t include any errors. Resumes are the most important tools to get a candidate into an interview.”

Work-Study Job Fair

Student Workers Wanted! The annual Work-Study Job Fair took place during Welcome Week, giving students who qualify for work-study the opportunity to explore different internship and work opportunities on the Marist campus.
What is work-study? Work-study provides part-time employment for undergraduate and graduate students who have applied for financial aid. The first 2 weeks of the fall and spring semesters are reserved for hiring work-study students. Once work-study students secure their positions, other students can be hired for campus employment regardless of financial need.
From Marist College Athletics to Admissions and more, students play a huge role in keeping the College’s departments thriving. Over 30 departments had booths at the job fair, offering a growing number of options for students interested in working on campus. Among the many departments present included the Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Marist Poll, Marketing & Communications, Admissions, Athletics, Student Activities, and First-Year Programs.
Bonus benefit: Many on-campus jobs offer valuable hands-on learning opportunities in addition to the paycheck, such as video and social media production, event planning, and serving as an interviewer for national opinion polls.

The Marist Band is Back!

Drumroll Please...the Marist Band is back and ready for action with about 70 students already involved in this semester’s band program, which is comprised of the marching, pep, and symphonic band.
Music for all: Did you know that regardless of instrument or skill level, any student is welcome to join the band? Instruments are also provided for students who do not have ones available on campus.
This semester’s football playlist: The Marist Band’s halftime field show during football season is themed “Day at the Movies,” since it will feature music from John Williams film scores, Saturday Night Fever, Encanto, and other movies!
Ensembles Galore: While some of the most visible band ensembles are the marching band and pep band at athletic events, there is also the wind symphony, the percussion ensemble, woodwind ensemble, brass ensemble, and the flute choir. There are even other concert ensembles that play contemporary music written by living composers. No matter the ensemble, all play at a high level.
Joining the band sounds so sweet: The Marist band is a great place to express your love of music, make new friends, and serve as a fun outlet from the rigor of weekly school schedules. Learn more by following @themaristband

Student Activities Fair

Get Involved! The Student Activities Fair took place on the Campus Green last week and introduces students to all of Marist's clubs, activities, and organizations. The Fair gives students a chance to meet club representatives and learn more about how to get involved on campus.
A Top Welcome Week Event: Students consistently list the Activities Fair as one of the most helpful Welcome Week events since it’s a chance for students to sign up on the spot or gather the information they need to join a club later.
Student Involvement Skyrockets: With over 90 clubs and organizations to choose from, it’s no wonder why many Marist students are often in more than one club per semester. Getting involved in different clubs and organizations can help students fulfill personal passions, meet new friends, build their on-campus support system, and boost their professional skills and resumes.
