Paul Qaysi
Visiting Lecturer in Art and Digital Media
Bio
Paul Qaysi is an artist and educator who lives and works in Brooklyn, N.Y. With a B.F.A. from Pratt Institute, he then earned an M.F.A. at Bard College - International Center for Photography in Advanced Photographic Studies. Qaysi's work has been showcased in New York City and in a variety of international venues.
In his 'Misprints' series, Qaysi intervenes in the representation of war in the Middle East and the use of images in media utilizing a destructive inkjet printing process. The work was featured in "Aesthetics of Slowness" at Dorsky Gallery in New York, and "War is for the Living" at the Sylvia Wald and Po Kim Gallery, which was reviewed in the New York Times. Additional group exhibitions include "Editing the News" at FotoMuseum, Belgium; "Strike Anywhere" at Rita K. Hillman Education Gallery, New York; "Making History RAY 2012" at Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt, Germany; and "The Exquisite Landscape: A Transcript of Sight" at Rita K. Hillman Education Gallery, New York.
His recent artwork explores the concurrent practice of drawing and painting, using the body as the medium.
