Dr. Shannon Roper

Associate Professor of Communication; Coordinator of Global IMC, Florence Campus

Bio

Since the fall of 2001, I have been on the communication faculty in the School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College. Aside from teaching the introductory communication course (formerly known as Communication Principles), Communication Capping, Fundamentals of Public Relations, Public Relations Writing Tools, Small Group Communication, and Interpersonal Communication, I also teach Gender, Culture and Communication, a course dual-listed with the Women's Studies program. In Fall 2003, I created a Special Topics course titled Social & Psychological Perspectives of Computer Mediated Communication, as well as a special topics course in Nonverbal Communication in the Spring of 2010 & 2011 and Nonverbal Communication in Everyday Life in the Fall of 2016 & 2017. On the graduate school level, in 2005 I created and taught the online graduate course in Interpersonal Communication through 2012, prior to becoming Department Chairperson.  After serving as Chairperson, I am now serving as the LdM Faculty Coordinator for the B.S. in Communication (Global Marketing Communication) degree at our campus in Florence, Italy.

In-between my being an undergrad at Marist and returning as a faculty member, I taught a myriad of courses as a teaching assistant at Rutgers University (Ph.D.--2001) and as an adjunct professor at William Paterson University in New Jersey. I also worked in the Office of Public Information-College Relations at William Paterson and worked in a mid-sized public relations firm in New York City, as well as temporarily for J. Walter Thompson Advertising between graduate programs.
