Dr. Donald R. Schwartz
Associate Professor of Computer Science
Bio
Dr. Schwartz’s areas of expertise include Database Management, User Interface Design and Software Engineering. He has an international reputation as a leader in Service Learning in Computer Science. Service Learning involves extending the learning experience beyond the classroom and out into the broader community through the mutually-beneficial experience of developing software packages for governmental and non-governmental organizations, as well as educational and non-profit agencies. Dr. Schwartz has led a wide variety of very successful projects for a number of agencies, including the American Red Cross, the Mississippi State Department of Health, Jackson Public Schools, the Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, various public and private schools, and the Mississippi Children’s Home Services organization. He has an extensive publication record in Service Learning and Group Project Management and Assessment.
His current research focuses on using Large Language Models and Convolutional Neural Networks to automate the grading of SQL queries. His past research projects include the design and development of database support for Data-driven Cinematography for Virtual 3-D Movie Production and Games.
