Are you interested in games? Are you interested in creating, designing, and learning about cutting-edge media, such as apps, mobile technology, virtual reality, and online games? The B.S. in Games and Emerging Media degree could be a good fit for you!
Emerging Media and Games Degree
This interdisciplinary program provides all majors with a foundation in programming, art, game design, UI/UX, game writing/storytelling, and the business of games. In addition, students have the opportunity to take courses in the ethics of games, online culture, storytelling across media, artificial intelligence, and other relevant topics. Students also participate in a game studio course, which is set up like a mock game studio. Students are also required to take a capstone course, which helps them establish a portfolio of games and media work.
Students in the program have the opportunity to concentrate in either :
- Technical Development and Programming
- Design, Writing, and Culture
The Technical Development and Programming students focus on the programming and software development side of game creation, while the Design, Writing, and Culture students take a customized mix of courses in writing, game design, and social aspects of gaming, depending on one's interests. Students can also minor in Games and Emerging Media.
In addition, students can participate in the Play Innovation Lab, where they have the opportunity to design and research games, as well as help organize and participate in games-related events.
The core faculty of the program is drawn from the Computing Technology Department in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, as well as from the Media Arts Department in the School of Communication and the Arts.
What makes Marist's program special? We are:
- Interdisciplinary
- Innovative
