B.A. in Mathematics Education

Teaching mathematics at the high school or middle school level is a challenging and rewarding profession, and Marist can provide you with the tools you need to succeed as a secondary education teacher.

Marist's Department of Mathematics provides majors with a solid grounding in the ideas and techniques of mathematics. By taking appropriate coursework both within and outside the department, the mathematics major may graduate with a provisional certificate to teach mathematics at the secondary education level in New York State. Full certification requires an M.A., which most teachers finish during the first five years of employment.

Additional coursework for the certification is taken in the Psychology and Education Departments during the first three undergraduate years. Senior year includes a course on methods of teaching mathematics, observation of classes in local schools, and 12 credits of student teaching.
