Mission
The mission of the School of Professional Programs at Marist College is to provide quality-driven adult education, built on a strong liberal arts foundation that will embolden and enhance the ability of professionals to succeed in a global economy. The School of Professional Programs (SPP) carries out this mission by providing working adult students the tools they need to successfully enter/transition and succeed in higher education by providing an accessible, flexible, and high-quality degree program that is relevant to their professional practice. The SPP mission statement aligns with the mission of the college, by focusing on providing students with a strong liberal arts foundation built on the Marist ideals: intellect (disciplinary knowledge, critical thinking), character (value system), and skills (written and oral expression, analysis, synthesis). The School of Professional Program’s ongoing goal is to assess how well the Professional Studies major is meeting the objectives highlighted in the school mission; to provide adult students with a strong liberal arts foundation through their ability to integrate academic disciplines, demonstrate communication competence and develop specialized knowledge. This is accomplished through direct measures of written assignments.
