Science Student Organizations
Membership in these Student Organizations is open to any science major at Marist.
American Chemical Society - Student Affiliate (ACS-SA)
The Marist American Chemical Society runs General Chemistry review sessions prior to each exam with students and faculty available to answer any questions students may have. The society also holds its annual Mole Day celebration, hosts pizza parties each semester, and has fundraisers, including selling its popular science-themed T-shirts. The department also hosts a series of lectures available to students every semester.
Athletic Training Student Organization
The Athletic Training Club is a student organization dedicated to supporting the academic and professional growth of students pursuing careers in athletic training. The club offers a variety of activities, including study sessions, skill review workshops, and educational events featuring guest speakers who share insights into the field. Members also have the opportunity to give back to the community through initiatives like fundraising events and services such as a massage clinic during finals week. The club fosters a collaborative and supportive culture, providing a sense of community for students while promoting awareness of the athletic training profession. The club's overall mission is to provide social and educational opportunities to members while also acting as a valuable resource for students looking to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Delta Epsilon Mu - Upsilon Chapter
Delta Epsilon Mu is the national premier professional pre-health fraternity. DEM is held together by tradition and the principles of Dedication, Loyalty, Friendship, and Support. These four pillars are the foundation for what binds us together as a fraternity, family, and friends. DEM was founded with the goal of uniting students interested in health fields including but not limited to medicine, psychology, dentistry, nursing, physical therapy, nutrition, and many more.
Pre-Dental Society
The purpose of this organization is to act as a resource to empower fellow students, who have an interest in pursuing (or are on the pathway to) dentistry while, “developing their intellect, character, and skills required for enlightened, ethical, and productive” leadership. The club will enable like-minded students to grow their knowledge regarding dentistry outside of the classroom, as well as provide resources for post-graduate success in the dental field. We host five general meetings per semester encompassing topics ranging from admissions, applications, and navigating the Marist School of Science to manual dexterity activities, guest speakers and volunteer opportunities. Additionally, we supplement those programs with field trips to district dental schools, and involvement within the American Student Dental Association.
The purpose of the Pre-PA Society is to serve as a dynamic platform for students who aspire to pursue a career as a physician assistant. Through a diverse range of clinics and events, the society aims to provide its members with invaluable resources, guidance, and opportunities to explore and prepare for their future profession. We host four meetings each semester including guest lectures by PA’s, workshops on PA school admissions, volunteer opportunities for local hospitals, etc. Additionally, the society may organize mentorship programs between the Marist MSPA graduate students and undergraduate members applying in the next cycle to assist with the application process. By fostering a supportive community of like-minded individuals and offering access to comprehensive resources, the Pre-PA Society equips its members with the knowledge, skills, and connections necessary to thrive on their journey towards becoming future physician assistants.
The purpose of the Marist Pre-PT Club is to provide a framework for undergraduate students who aim to explore the profession of physical therapy. With the aid of the faculty and students from Marist’s Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program, pre-PT club members are able to gain insight into the workload, didactic and hands-on laboratory experiences that the DPT students encounter. DPT students act as liaisons providing insight on the application process, admissions, and professional achievement. The club hosts regular Q&A panels that feature current DPT students as well as local physical therapists that allow members to explore the various work environments and possibilities that the profession has to offer. Various volunteering and community involvement opportunities will be made accessible to all members. The club will host at least four meetings a semester, including a DPT student-run panel, PT speaker events, manual and physical dexterity activities, a fundraising event, etc.
Pre-Vet Club
The purpose of the Marist Pre-Vet Club is to increase the overall knowledge of animal behavior and veterinary medicine. Another objective of the club is to provide a network of peers and faculty within the Marist community who share an interest in veterinary medicine as well as professionals outside of Marist who practice veterinary medicine. We also try to help students cope with the high levels of stress relating to the veterinary school application process and provide ways to improve their chances of acceptance. We often have guest speakers from the admissions office of various veterinary schools who provide insight into their specific programs. Members have the chance to attend trips to local rescue shelters, zoos, and hospitals to observe surgeries and various animals. The Marist Pre-Vet Club is registered with the American Pre-Veterinary Medical Association.
Operation Smile (Philanthropic chapter)
The Marist Outing Club’s mission is to allow all Marist students to explore the natural beauty of the Hudson River Valley by enjoying the outdoors in the presence of classmates. Not only do we supply our members with the planning, access, and proper equipment needed to partake in various outdoor activities, but the Marist Outing Club is also dedicated to preparing members with the education and training necessary to experience these ventures safely. We welcome all members of the Marist community, including students, faculty, staff, and alums who wish to participate in the Marist Outing Club regardless of physical ability or experience.
Sigma Zeta National Science and Math Honor Society - Alpha Phi Chapter
Sigma Zeta is a national undergraduate honor society to encourage and foster scholarly activity and recognize academic scholarship in the natural sciences and mathematics. Requirements for induction are a 3.3 overall GPA, a 3.0 science GPA and 100 earned credits. Membership in this honor society is noted in the commencement program.
Students Encouraging Environmental Dedication (SEED)
SEED seeks to encourage environmental respect, friendliness, and dedication through the appreciation of nature by educating members on current and local environmental issues. Moreover, SEED tries to serve as a voice for Marist students as an advocate for progressive sustainable development for the Marist University campus and the greater community at large. It is our hope to instill and foster our member’s love for the environment through exposure to outdoor activities such as the fern tour, hiking, river clean-ups, apple picking, ice-skating, and more.
