These, as well as consulting firms and environmental advocacy groups, are some examples of the internship opportunities students can take advantage of in the greater Poughkeepsie area.
Research projects are usually for either three or six credits and are taken during either the junior or senior year. The summer between the junior and senior year is a particularly good time to participate in this type of activity. Some typical examples of recent student projects include:
- fecal coliform analysis of sites along a local stream through areas of different land use
- uptake of PCB's by Hudson River zebra mussels
- effects of zebra mussel filtration on sediment deposits in the Hudson River
- effects of electromagnetic fields on plants
- reproductive success of Hudson River zebra mussels
- weed control and vegetable production using different mulches on an organic farm
