Responsibilities: The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Internship Program is very dynamic and offers college students some of the best experience and training available. The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department exposes its student interns to a vast array of areas within the Police Department. Students receive hands-on experience in the areas of patrol techniques, criminal investigations, identification and records procedures, and victim assistance.

Observation experiences for interns have included a wide Variety of police work. Our interns will have the ability to observe the day-to-day operations of our patrol and detective division. It is our intention to provide a comprehensive learning experience; however, we cannot guarantee the exact experiences an intern will receive due to the dynamic nature of police activities and the unpredictability of criminal activity.

Intern selection is competitive due to the limited number of available positions, generally one per semester.

Applicants must submit a resume and cover letter indicating how many hours are needed to fulfill their internship requirements. Resumes and cover letters need to be submitted to Sgt. Herring at Jherring@CityofPoughkeepsie.com
