The Marist Community
Benefits of Going Greek
Leadership
There are various opportunities to achieve leadership experience throughout the Greek community and Marist College. Students may gain the abilities and hands-on experiences to later help with future career opportunities. Each chapter consists of an executive board or other leadership opportunities. We also have council positions where members work on a larger scale with all chapters. It is not uncommon to find members within their 1st year of membership taking on these leadership roles. No matter the role/position each holds great responsibilities, for instance, as financial officer/treasurer you would be accountable of creating, delegating, and managing a budget annually. Through these leadership opportunities, individual may gain relevant experience in organizing events, budgeting, working with others, accountability, public speaking, and time management skills.
As mentioned, outside of the chapter leadership are opportunities within the Greek Councils offering the chance to meet and work with other members from all chapters.
Scholarship
All Greek organizations were based on having "high educational standards." At Marist, students are here to be students first. Therefore the Greek community acknowledges, admires, and works towards furthering each member’s educational success while at Marist. Each individual chapter develops resources to encourage and support educational accomplishments inside the Greek community. Programs may include, but are not limited to mentor/mentee programs, study hall hours, and/or educational incentives to meet or exceed their academic goals/standards.
Philanthropy/Community Service
The Marist Greek community is dedicated to service. Every chapter has a philanthropy that they sponsor and many chapters also support local organizations. Throughout the year, each chapter holds or participates in various philanthropy/service events, such as Reading is Fundamental, Take Back the Night, annual blood drive, Adopt-A-Highway, and Habitat for Humanity.
Annually, the Greek Community and Councils co-sponsor Relay for Life.
Social
As a member of the Greek community, you will find a “family-like” bond with your sorority sisters and fraternity brothers that we hope will develop into long-lasting friendships after college. Attending Greek-wide events, athletics games, mixers/events, formals, date parties, chapter events, chapter retreats, intramural sports, are just some of the activities you may experience or be involved with as a member of the Greek community at Marist.
