New York Stage and Film at Marist Announces Summer Season With Hollywood and Broadway Headliners
April 10, 2023 — New York Stage and Film at Marist College returns to Poughkeepsie July 14-August 6 for its 2023 Summer Season, which will feature a combination of emerging artists and Hollywood and Broadway headliners.
Considered one of the preeminent incubators for theater in the country, for 38 years New York Stage and Film (NYSAF) has operated as a vital test lab for artists and their work as well as a catalyst for stories that continue across the country and around the world. Among the featured programs in this year’s Summer Season are:
- Laurence Fishburne performing “Like They Do In The Movies.” Well-known for his roles in Hollywood hits such as The Matrix and John Wick, Fishburne has earned numerous Tony and Emmy Awards as well as an Oscar nomination. This play workshop is described as a “one man tour-de-force” that will offer a unique evening exploring “the stories and lies people have told me,” according to Fishburne.
- Dance-driven musical “Paradise Ballroom” created by Princess Lockerooo. A visionary in the dance industry known for her exceptional work as a producer, public speaker, event curator, director, and choreographer, Princess Lockerooo has been featured on leading television platforms such as So You Think You Can Dance? and America's Got Talent. A longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, her production profiles a character rejected by their parents who finds refuge and community in a West L.A. LGBTQ+ safe haven.
- Musical workshop “A Wrinkle in Time.” A collaboration amongst Lauren Yee, Heather Christian, and Lee Sunday Evans, this new musical adaptation will explore this classic novel about time travel.
The 2023 Summer Season will include a kick off concert on July 14 with “Joe Iconis & Family.” Tickets go on sale on Monday, May 1.

“The NYSAF summer season is our annual opportunity to hear from a rich tapestry of voices,” said Interim Artistic Director Liz Carlson. “This year, we'll journey into uncertainty, contemplate our legacy, wrestle with absurdity, and challenge the limits of family. We are excited to add support for dance-driven musicals to our exceptional community of theater and film artists, with the new program Stories That Move. We are overjoyed to continue to expand our relationship with Marist College, and can’t wait to welcome the public back to the Marist campus this summer, where they will serve a pivotal role in the developmental process for each of these pieces.”
During its Summer Season on the Marist campus, NYSAF will work with the College to lend professional expertise to its curricular programs. Current Marist students will be able to serve as interns and staff members, while pre-college students will benefit from engaging with NYSAF artistic and production professionals.
