New YorkIan, who served as an Airman in the Air National Guard and double majored in Computer Science and Cybersecurity, has felt a calling to a greater good.
“A lot of my family was in the military. A lot of what I heard growing up was make your job have an impact in the world,” he said.
After he graduated in 2024, Ian landed at IBM in data analytics, providing intelligence for the Department of Defense. A native of Delmar, New York, he moved to Virgina for an exciting, impactful career protecting his country using his Marist education.
“I wanted to do something that has more of a meaning, more of an outcome. When you look back at your life, you realize, it’s not how much money you have, it’s how you influenced change,” he said.
Ian demonstrated his commitment to community service during his studies at Marist. He led a team that developed a flood alert system for the Village of Rhinebeck, New York. Thanks to this capstone project, the Village can better monitor a dam that is a constant flood threat to local residents.
Throughout his time at Marist, Ian has found inspiration in his peers, who have consistently motivated him to strive to be a force for good for his community, small and large.
