Celebration of Alumni and Student Research and Creative Activities

The Student Center featured the diverse and dynamic research and creative activities of current students and recent alumni. Presentations and displays included student and alumni research posters in the River Rooms and the Marist Circle “For the Record” project, with inspiring stories about members of the Marist community. The Marist Office of International Programs highlighted their programs, students, and stories from abroad, and the Cannavino Library displayed historical images of Marist from the archives.

Academic Symposium

Academic disciplines have always been revised and reshaped by new ways of thinking. They have also experienced more dramatic transformations when paradigm shifts replace older perspectives. Recently, many fields have started to critically examine the breadth of assumptions underlying their conceptual frameworks and what they teach their students.  In the current academic year, first-year Marist students are all reading Clint Smith’s How the Word is Passed, an incisive look into how the presentation of America’s history in public forums has been distorted by racism and an exclusive approach to celebrating America’s past.  This symposium featured Marist professors, drawn from disparate disciplines, who spoke to how their own fields are addressing new ways of approaching the diversity of attitudes, equitable methodologies, and inclusive frameworks.
