Master of Social Work Admission Requirements

You have put a lot of thought into making the decision to apply. Make sure you don’t forget the details!

Preparing to Apply

Before you begin the online application, we highly recommend you have your current resume and personal statement finalized.  Both documents will be uploaded to the centralized application. 

How to Apply

All applications for admission will be processed through a centralized application service for graduate programs (GradCAS).  

You will create an account via the online application portal (preferred browsers are Google Chrome or Firefox).  If you encounter any issues, please contact our technical support at 857-304-2086 or via email GradCASinfo@liaisonedu.com

A complete application in GradCAS includes the following:

You will select the following:

  • Term – Summer
  • Institution – Marist College
  • Program – Master of Social Work OR Master of Social Work - Advanced Standing
    • Unofficial transcript from each college/university attended Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program with a GPA of 3.0, or higher must be uploaded to the application for an admission decision.  Official bachelor’s degree noted transcript will be required upon acceptance in order to matriculate.
      • Electronic official transcripts will be accepted through Credentials SolutionsNational Clearinghouse, or Parchment. Be sure to enter Marist College as the recipient
      • Official transcripts can also be sent via mail to:

    • Current resume
    • Personal essay of at least 500 words that includes:
      • Your interest in social work practice and the particular population you are interested in working with
      • Your understanding of anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion
      • Why you are interested in the fully online MSW program at Marist College 
    • Three letters of recommendation (one letter of reference must be from a social work faculty. Two references can be from other faculty, agency field instructor, and/or employment supervisors)
      • You must supply the names and email addresses for each recommender in GradCAS in order to submit your application
    • Copy of Mid-year or Final Field Evaluation to be uploaded by Coordinator of Field Education, BSW Program Director, or faculty advisor
    • Selected students will be offered an interview with the program director after their application is completed.
