Student, Alumni and Faculty to be Featured During Events Surrounding President’s Inauguration
September 19, 2022 – Later this week, Marist students, faculty and alumni will be on full display during events surrounding the inauguration of Dr. Kevin Weinman as the College’s fifth president. The celebration will begin Thursday with campus tours and an open house at the Steel Plant Studios featuring the work of faculty, students, and alumni from the Art and Fashion programs. Friday morning will include installations of student and alumni research and creative activity and Academic Symposia featuring Marist faculty in the Murray Student Center.
Thursday, September 22
On Thursday at the Steel Plant Studios, the Fashion Gallery will be hosting various works from alumni. Some two dozen Fashion Design Alumni will be sending garments to feature. An Art Gallery exhibit will feature work from Marist students and faculty.
“The open house will feature installations of so many creative works from the art and fashion Programs,” said Jennifer Finn, Marist Fashion Program Chair. “For instance, the Art Gallery will feature various works from faculty and students, while the Fashion Gallery will consist of an exhibit featuring works from recent graduates. Fashion Design senior capstone garments, with insights highlighting their inspiration and meaning behind their thesis collection will also be featured.”
Friday, September 23
On Friday, there will be a number of events taking place in the morning ahead of the formal installation ceremony of President Weinman. The events at the Murray Student Center, will showcase the work of current students and recent alumni. Marist faculty will feature “Snap Talks” featuring impactful research with TED-style short presentations. There will also be an Academic Symposium featuring Marist professors.
“The inauguration is at once a celebration of our new President and our amazing college community,” said Dr. James Snyder, Marist’s Dean of Academic Engagement. “It provides us with the perfect occasion to showcase to the world what is distinctive about a Marist education. The faculty have been hard at work planning exhibits, installations, and symposia that will speak to the breadth, depth, and diversity of the scholarship and creative activities of our faculty and students,” he said.
