September 26, 2018 — Robert H. Herz, Executive in Residence at Columbia University’s School of Business and board member of The Sustainability Accounting Standards Board Foundation, will discuss sustainability issues at the Marist School of Management on Wednesday, October 3, 12:30pm, Hancock Center, room 2023. This talk, which is part of the School of Management’s Research Seminar Series, is free and open to the public.

Sustainability accounting is a subcategory of financial accounting that focuses on the disclosure of non-financial information about firms’ performance to external audiences. It is sometimes referred to as social accounting or social and environmental accounting.

The Research Seminar Series brings business experts to campus. “This series is an important way to connect our faculty, management students and members of the public with leading scholars,” said series organizer and Assistant Professor of Business Law Thomas M. Madden. “Mr. Herz will also meet with accounting students and discuss the accounting standards-setting process and current issues being deliberated by the Financial Accounting Standards Board.”  

A member of the boards of directors and various board committees of Morgan Stanley, Fannie Mae, Workiva Inc. and Libra Technologies, Herz also chairs the audit committees of Fannie Mae and Morgan Stanley. He also serves on the advisory boards of several other companies and regulatory bodies and was formerly a trustee and vice chair of the Kessler Foundation. Previously, Herz was Chairman of the Financial Accounting Standards Board from 2002-2010, a member of the International Accounting Standards Board, and was for many years a senior partner at PwC, including serving on its global board.
