June 24, 2022 – Marist College today released the following statement regarding its Upward Bound program:

“For more than a half-century, the Marist Upward Bound Program has served hundreds of young people in the Hudson Valley, helping them develop the critical skills necessary to complete high school and to excel in postsecondary education and beyond. Marist stands by its long-term success in this program and will continue to seek access to TRIO and other potential sources of funding so this important work on behalf of the local community can continue.

“Marist Upward Bound is one of a number of programs and partnerships that promote inclusive access to education in the Hudson Valley, which also includes the Liberty Partnerships Program, the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), our innovative Early College High School Program with Newburgh Schools, a commitment to work with local communities including through the Poughkeepsie ‘YOU’ and the Newburgh Armory Unity Center, our newly launched GLI Scholarship program, and our summer pre-college programs. Marist will continue to pursue all avenues to support and expand access to our world-class education, as well as preparation for high school graduation and post-secondary success for students in the region.”

About the Marist Upward Bound Program

Founded in 1966, Marist Upward Bound has been a college preparatory program entirely funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and designed to generate in participants the skills and motivation necessary to persist in completing their secondary education and enter and complete a program of postsecondary education.

Services have been provided on campus, at high schools and other sites after school, including on Saturdays and during the summer residential program. Marist faculty, staff and students have long served as volunteers or salaried personnel.
